If you haven't already purchased triple square sockets and have a selection of torx drivers you'll want to do some shopping.Let the games begin.View attachment 67104
Well what i call a 12 point socket fits over the external diameter of a bolt head, triple square (also called zxn) sockets look like torx (internal) but they are not the same. I think they do that just to piss off people when you accidently schmoo out the corners of your bolt by using the wrong driver.Got full set of Torx but I don't have any triple square sockets. Are those 12-point sockets?
I'll pick some up, thanks for the tip!Well what i call a 12 point socket fits over the external diameter of a bolt head, triple square (also called zxn) sockets look like torx (internal) but they are not the same. I'll take dead springs off your hands.Pulled both front struts this afternoon.
To say they needed replacing is a major understatement.
The damper rods sins to the bottom under their own weight. And the left side spring was broken.

General source of decent hardening steel. I don't know the diameter of the material, so the actual use still TBD.Dead springs —————> nice high-carbon knives?

Interesting. I've not encountered this before either. The front springs on my Jetta wagon did the same.
Maybe a common VW failure?
I've never heard of another make with catastrophic coil spring failure.
