  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    2x72 grinder discussion

Price seems a bit ambitious for a housemade grinder kit. https://housemade.us/products/ultimate-bundle

Right angle milling heads and a big vernier

I'd placed an alert on Bidspotter for an Excello right angle milling head and I had two pop up on me right around the same time. I placed some bids and ended up winning both lots. The auctions were in the NE US, and I'm in western Canada, so by the time I paid auction fees, 3rd party picking...

    Motor starter 3HP, 220V 14-17A, $50

I bought a motor starter a while ago because I thought a switch on my mill drill was wonky, but that ended up not being the issue. This motor starter has never been used and has been collecting dust on my shelf ever since...

Wanted: 1/4" #2 Number Metal Stamp

A bit of a long shot but since we're all (or at least almost all) hoarders here, I thought I'd put it out here. I have a 1/4" number stamping set, but it appears I'm missing my "2" stamp. Yes, I'm aware I can just buy a new number set from Princess Auto for $10. But on the off chance that...

These auction rigging fees are ridiculous...

A bit of venting post. I get the odd email from bidspotter about upcoming auctions and seeing as one came up in Calgary I thought I'd have a look. But man, these fees are bonkers. Every item has rigging fees on it, starting at $25. I'm not sure what kind of advanced rigging they're needing for...

    4x6 bandsaw cart and improvements

So, in another thread I mused that my 4x6 bandsaw was a neverending projects list but I think with these few improvements I'm done for now with the upgrades to my little bandsaw. These are certainly not new ideas and I leaned heavily on the internet for inspiration and ideas. First off, a new...

    Lathe headstock oil question

I hope this is pretty straightforward but oil discussions can be such a can of worms... I need to replenish or replace the oil in my lathe's headstock. The user manual calls for iso vg 32 oil in the headstock (iso vg 68 in the apron, which I already have). I'm led to believe that SAE 10w is...

What is it? (auction odds and ends)

A while back I won an auction lot, mostly for a 3-jaw chuck. The lot also had a few other bits thrown in and I'm not really sure what they're for, and my curiosity is getting the better of me. Also, if you were bidding against me and were actually interested in these items rather than the...

    Greetings from the Kootenays

Greetings from the Kootenays! Anyone nearby? We moved here a few years ago after a long stint in Calgary. Grew up 'out east' (That means Ontario for you actual Easterners...). I think this site came up as I was doing a search on Standard Modern lathes. Someday I'd like to own one, but in the...
