Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans.     I have a hand cranked helical gear driven watchmaker's mandrel from the early 1800s. I estimate it's age on the basis of almost identical mandrels sold by Sotheby and online vendors.

    Every time Makita improves their battery technology, they change the way the battery fits to the tool with no backwards compatability. So I have an older circ saw, a recip saw and a couple others and no Makita battery to power them. I've been hesitant to grind away parts of the old tools'...

    Based on the many used machines my Father imported from Scandinavia many years ago, I would think the motor may be 380 volt.

    SB9 reverse threading

    If your chuck and your lathe spindle both have a collar/flange, you can make a split collar that clamps across the two of them. That eliminates any chance of the chuck coming off during reverse machining. There is a variation to this if the chuck doesn't have a collar.

    Just one other thing; the method I learned means no shifting of the compound so threading can be incorporated any where in a sequence of machining operations.

    I was taught a modified version of the 90 degree method using a hand ground tool. Each pass except the first involved plunging say .010 with the cross slide and dialing the compound over half of that (.005). A skim pass was the last where you dialed back the compound .001 to clean up the back...
