Welcome to Westwood Metalworks, What is he building in there?

Every new addition requires a reorganization.....I think here might be a good spot for it. For now..... This will force my hand to finally move my battery tool storage to a better spot. They just ended up here because it was easy. Never liked them there.... Thats enough for today. Got a...

Big day today. First sparks..... Finished machining the wheel, and boring for the taper lock. Tracked the first belt by hand, and it landed in the middle of travel. Ran it a bit and it didn't budge....I'm pretty impressed. Still lots to do, platten, tables, accessories (a spot to...

    Another Problem Filled Project

Been thinking about making a multi function sharpening station like the Quorn or Bonnelle as next winters indoor project. Despite the delays, I've had a lot of fun and enjoyment designing/building my belt grinder, so would like to do the same process with a grinder station. I only have a vague...

    Iron Casting

I'm sure someone here can help you out with that....If you lived closer, I'd make up some patterns for angle plates or something.

My Keen Cincinnati boots are the most comfortable pieces of footware I own. I've long been a fan of Keen footware, they just fit my Wide flippers much better than others. I also always run 2 insoles as well. Like standing on a cloud....After a shift, my feet are generally the only thing that...

    Lost foam aluminium casting issues

Toilet ring/parrafin mix is what use for fillets too. Melt it, suck it up into a syringe the plunge it out into a line on the bench. Fillet tools to press it into place. I made my own fillet tools by welding various size balls to wire/rod. Even picked up an alcohol lamp from a local...

Welcome to Westwood Metalworks, What is he building in there?

No progress on the wheel today. Work kicked my ass last night, and I slept all day to go back in tonight. Was rebuilding the vanes of a large fan separator that grenaded it internals. Fun time...... I did have a thought last night around 4/5am though....Not sure if it was a fever dream or...

Welcome to Westwood Metalworks, What is he building in there?

I changed into proper clothes and footware before the casting fellas..... I wasn't wearing that stuff any longer than I had to...... And yeah, crocs are terrible for your feet. I don't wear them much, just slipping on to putter in the garden, shop or backyard. If I wear them too long back...

Welcome to Westwood Metalworks, What is he building in there?

Well, I finally had a successful lost foam wheel casting today. Deja vu yet? Here's something not seen yet. A good casting... Almost got it all machined, but i got called into work tonight, so had to quit early. Only the taper lock bore left. It cleaned up pretty good, some slight...

    Lost foam aluminium casting issues

Casting went great this time. Only some very minor surface imperfections that machined out. First look through the smoke.... Only some slight rippling on this edge and again, and under cut sand fill issue, but all in all a pretty good and useable casting. Heres some shots of the...
