Excello 602 parts machine - Hamilton, ON

I’m selling selling my excello since I picked up the “free” first mill and I only have space for one machine. Located in Hamilton, ON It’s functional but the Y and Z ways are very worn. You can see in the second picture just how bad the Y axis ways are. With the shimmed gib snugged up there’s...

    HSS lathe tools

It is the same guy. That’s what I was getting at. I bought a 4ft cast iron straight edge there. It’s milled but not finished. It will one day get scraped… not sure when.

    HSS lathe tools

It’s a store, so if you are close by, you can go there and buy stuff. No need for eBay. Be careful because they have way more stuff than what is listed on eBay or on their website. You may leave penniless. https://cardontools.com/

The “free” First LC-1 1/2 VS Mill

Forgot to take pictures but I got a bit further into disassembling the head yesterday. I got the top cover off and the VS mechanism out. It took a bit longer than it should have since one of the socket head screws holding the cover on had the hex socket stripped out. Once that stuff was off...

    Tool Surface Plate Tool Contact

I think the logical conclusion to this is just to build a surface gage with an air bearing! A lot of the high end height masters and height gages have them.

    Brazed ratchet socket?

I’d go with a black impact socket. Pretty sure it’s just an oxide coating. You could easily remove it from the inside by bead blasting or maybe a soak in the right oxide removing solution. Brazing or welding anything chromed is not so great because of the fumes.

    Tool Surface Plate Tool Contact

Maybe it wasn’t the best choice (In my defense I made it a while ago) but I relieved the bottom of my the squareness comparator I made to leave four pads about 3/4”-1” square. I then ground them on a SG and it works fine. With a tenths indicator at the maximum height (14”) up against something...

The “free” First LC-1 1/2 VS Mill

Probably not since I want to to do a refresh of the upper head just for the sake of longevity. Bearings, belts etc. That will be a few hundred bucks. The spindle bearings I won’t touch unless I see a reason too. The motor side pulley halves have been bored, the adapter plate for mounting the...

    Personal Protection Hearing and Eyes

I prefer muffs for hearing protection if it’s not too hot out. At home they’re worktunes and at work they’re 3M muffs that attach to my hard hat. If it’s hot or if I have to get into a tight space then I wear the tri flange plugs. Foam plugs are a real hassle for me to get in my ears… must be...

The “free” First LC-1 1/2 VS Mill

So I popped the motor off and took it with me to take some measurements of the shaft. I’m starting to think the easiest and most cost effective way forward is to actually adapt the servo motor I have to the existing vari-speed mechanism. This will give me two methods of speed control, which is...
