  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. de-magnetizer?

Thanks Craig, I might just try that (if I strike out at my Son's place later today) - he's been a pro. machinist for 20+ years, he might just have a commercial one he picked up somewhere in his travels.

    de-magnetizer?

I didn't know that heat would de-magnetize and it wouldn't return after cooling. But buying a de-magnetizer off Amazon would be cheaper (I think).

    de-magnetizer?

Turning some 1.375" round bar - place I bought it from used a big abrasive cut-off wheel to cut it - now its rather strongly magnetized. Turning it on the lathe, its quite annoying to have chips come back and stick to it.:( Anyone got a good method to de-magnetize (without buying a de-magnetizer) ?

    Diamond cutoff wheel ?

Yes, I noticed that with the masonry wheels - big diamond particles and not really very many of them on the cutting face.

    Diamond cutoff wheel ?

Well, it might work - at least it looks like its intended for metal cutting. The ones for concrete / ceramic tiles are segmented like that and the gaps between segments seem to make them quite rough / bouncy. This is the kind of wheel I'd like to get - thinking the MSC wheels would cut like...

    Diamond cutoff wheel ?

Thanks for the responses guys. I've tried several of the diamond blades intended for concrete or ceramic. Not very nice to use in an angle grinder, very rough and "jumpy". "Score and break" was attempted, holding in flat aluminum vise jaws, quite close to the score but I just got shattered...

    Diamond cutoff wheel ?

So, I've got some carbide blanks I'd like to cut to length before further grinding with diamond wheels. I've tried the diamond concrete or ceramic wheels from Home Depot etc. but failed with those. Anyone got a source for 1/8" or less thickness cutoff wheels ? Blanks I'm wanting to cut are 1/2 x...

Where to get V-Belt which Princess Auto nor Canadian tire have?

I've had good luck with Lordco - primarily automotive but they do carry a fair bit of "Industrial" products as well. They are relatively new to AB but are big in BC (80+ stores there IIRC) and they will source from other stores in a day or 2 if its in their system somewhere. Calgary store is...

    Don't do what i did.

Just a thought: Ever looked into "flame straightening" - there's a few youtube vid's on this. Actually a pretty interesting process. I've played around with it some - had some success, some not so much - burned up some oxy-acetylene too. Keith Fenner's got a pretty good video of prop shaft...
