  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Tools you waited too long to acquire

I like the high/low stool. I’ve never seen one like that. Thinking I might have to make one, and maybe adapt it as a 3 step ladder/stool. Points 3 & 4 are great too - definitely worth copying! Where do you get the magnetic sheets?

    Crack in Air Compressor tank…

Great stuff! A little cooling in compression has huge impact. I was looking at the thermodynamics of my air compressor. I was shocked when I looked at the expected discharge temperature. WAY too high. Not that surprising when you consider it’s about 9 to 1 compression ratio in a single stage...

Machine Parts...help me clear my shop of things I will never use.

That was me. :) Thinking (hoping) these might work, or I can adapt them for my Atlas 618..

    Am I a hoarder?

The older brother of a high school friend made up a batch of nitrogen triiodide. Stable when wet (in ammonia). When the ammonia dries out, the remaining powder (the nitrogen triiodide) is very pressure sensitive, and produces a loud bang, and some purple smoke… A little dab under a toilet...

    Am I a hoarder?

I can usually find that 7/16”, fine thread, lock nut I rescued from some project in 1998. But do you think I can find that 7/16” combination wrench I had in my hand 30 seconds ago?

I can imagine hitting those potholes with a locomotive would knock your fillings loose.

    R8 FMB22 Arbor & 400R End Mill Cutter

I bought this off Amazon, shipped direct from China. I actually bought it three times. The first two times (different seller each time) it simply did not arrive and I received full refund (after waiting up to three months!). In each of those cases, I was informed it had shipped, was charged...

    Crack in Air Compressor tank…

I suspect newer tanks are higher strength steel, allowing for thinner metal, and less weight/cost. But the higher strength adds nothing to corrosion allowance and the higher stresses-thinner wall will amplify stress risers around a flaw. The higher stength steels also require more stringent...

    Crack in Air Compressor tank…

I can think of a couple great uses for that old tank…

    Guidance to air compressors

Interesting, The correct question isn’t; What’s your duty cycle? it seems to come down to; What’s your actual average air consumption? Running the tool at half throttle doesn’t use 23 cfm, and if you run it for 2 minutes and it sits for 3 minutes, consumption is not 23 cfm on average...
