  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Crawford Lathe's 4 spd drive box woes...

I think your best bet is going to be to skip trying to find Maker's info, and measure the parts yourself, and have a chat with the guy at a bearings and seals house, such as BC Bearing. A digital Caliper would be very handy, take measurements in both Inch and Metric dimensions for the seals...

    JCDammeyer's 42 projects

I was serving in the CF at Comox then! (1985!) VU-33 Squadron, I was fixing Trackers and T-33's. Funny how close paths can cross without meeting! Had a friend that was crewing on a pretty large sailboat invited me out for one of their practice sessions. Was fun, but the money (that I didn't...

New to me Ammco 7" Metal shaper

Should be pushing forward slower than it retracts. As described earlier, the ram should be moving forward, when the (oh hells, trying to recall the terminology exactly. Dang!) eccentric driving block is in the 'top' portion of the driving arm, so it gets the best mechanical advantage driving...

New to me Ammco 7" Metal shaper

EXACTLY what I meant! With that info, a tape measure, and a calculator, you can figure out the size pulley that you should have, for the motor speed you are using. AND, close enough, really is! :)

New to me Ammco 7" Metal shaper

Yeah, the forward (power) stroke is at the 'top' of the arm inside the shaper, and the return is much faster as that occurs on the 'bottom' side of the arm. Best mechanical advantage for each use! You can either do the math, based on the strokes per minute in the manual. or you can likely just...

Noob needs help with custom HSS tool.

Meh. I taught apprentice tradesmen and women in the Forces, how to grind their own HSS tools, for about 8 years. If your grinder does not have an adjustable rest, make one! It'll make things SO much easier. Once you have a few hours of tool grinding under your belt, it becomes a lot easier to...

iPhone to Android - phone recommendations?

Yeah, I have a short charge cable that essentially lives on my desktop PC, every few weeks, I will create a new folder, and copy all my pictures across to there. Nothing earth shattering if I lose a few weeks of pictures, as most of them are either pictures of part numbers, birds I encountered...

iPhone to Android - phone recommendations?

I pretty much have just one major beef with Apple, and that is that they went out of their way to prevent repairs being possible. Intentionally killing off functionality of basic systems within the phone, if the screen was replaced, or the home button was, just seems to me to have been entirely...

iPhone to Android - phone recommendations?

LOL! Living that! I have iPhones, and iPads, because I am surrounded by family that makes poor decisions, and I get their broken stuff! I figure the iPad I use most of the time, was around $1500+, new. It cost me a $12 screen, bought from China, on eBay... Currently running an iPhone 8, the...
