How would you repair this gear?

There are in fact three gears, the large and two identical of the smaller. The smaller gears actually engage with shift forks for forward and reverse feed. I'm starting to lean towards the Boston Gear adapt-it-to-make-it-work idea. I ran into another problem with the clutch that made me put...

How would you repair this gear?

Now that I have the concrete slab poured and the lathe bed pretty well positioned where I want it, I'm in the process of reassembly. In doing this I'm disassembling and cleaning a century worth of oil, grease, crud and paint from the sub assemblies. Oy the paint! I've counted so far at least...

    Shop Tool Box Tour

@Susquatch worry not. Every one's dividing line between cheap and inexpensive is different. Nigh on twenty years ago now, when I was a younger chap working for an internet service provider, I got used to working with carrier grade equipment, think the kind of gear you see on cell towers and in...

    Shop Tool Box Tour

@Susquatch I hear what you're saying about cheap tools for the go-bag, but here's a differing opinion. In my experience cheap tools are a pain, sometimes literally, to use. Slipping wrenches, barked knuckles, broken screwdriver tips, rounded nuts and bolts, stripped out screw heads.... - My on...

    Shop Tool Box Tour

I don't know if I should be in awe and worship the ground on which you walk, or hate you for your organization and neatness as well as high grade tools. I liked a line from a BMW airhead mechanic I met on a bike trip a few years ago in Virginia. "I have at least three of everything. When I...

Anchoring lathe - should I or shouldn't I and how to?

Shopped concrete work is expensive for a reason. Spent all morning prepping the area, setting up the forms etc. Then after lunch I started mixing, lugging and finishing the concrete. And that was just a 4x8 slab. Now I know it's probably at about 1950's level concrete technology considering...

Anchoring lathe - should I or shouldn't I and how to?

I'm convinced. Drill later and use the appropriate anchor. Also I'm going to modify the drive so I use pillow block bearings for the driven cone and build a platform only somewhat above the head stock, not hanging from the rafters. That will also need to be bolted to the floor as well. As an...

Anchoring lathe - should I or shouldn't I and how to?

Thanks all for the information. I'll be bolting the beast down. Now the question remains, install the anchors when I pour this section or drill after it's cured and use wedge or epoxied anchors. Not being an expert, I'm thinking cast in place will be stronger, better tie in to the slab, etc...
