  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Making PCB's

Thanks! Well, couple of reasons: I overcut the depth: -0.22mm instead of -0.05mm. That's huge!! There was a tiny bit of copper galling due to the 2800RPM speed and with 160mm feed rate the process took longer than I expected. The galling was a biggie to me and only visible under a microscope...

    Making PCB's

It's this one: https://www.sherline.com/product/8900-high-speed-engraving-spindle/ It's made to fit the Sherline and I liked the runout spec. It is backordered but hope to have it in a month. There is a knurled knob on it to adjust speed and I don't think I'll ever use it's max 54K RPM without...

    Making PCB's

This project has been a long time in the making. I recently built a GRBL CNC controller and last week got a Sherline 5410 mill. This evening I made my very first isolation routed PCB. This first attempt is for an SMD RF pre-amplifier so is only 40mm X 50mm. I'm 90% happy with it and it will only...

    Deciding on a mill

Now that my CNC controller is done and working, I'm looking intoa mill I can connect it to. When I started this project it was for isolation routing of printed circuit boards, so accuracy ismy main objective. Question is can anyone tell me how much of a difference ball screws make? Besides to...

    Home made CNC controller

Not sure if I'm straying too far off topic here so I'll stop after this one! Happy to see though a wide range of interest on this forum. My objective in doing light CNC work was to enable my main interest in building RF circuits for amateur radio transmitters/receivers. This was my most recent...

    Home made CNC controller

You're right; only one process at a time. For this application (controlling steppers) that is a plus. I thought initially of using LinuxCNC and a parallel port interface, but the uncertainty of finding the right H/W combo to ensure minimum latency became too much to bother with. Yes, that's just...

    Home made CNC controller

I have been at this for a while, but finally finished and tested it tonight. It works well and all I need now is a mill to connect the steppers up to. I built this initially to do isolation milling on PCB's, but since that time I started to think about other projects as well. This is based...

Thanks CalgaryPT! Well, yes I do remember all that stuff and still have one of those old Simpson 260's (used it tonight). No DSO's here, all analog Tek and HP. I only had one DSO and it sold last week so down to 5 scopes now. :) My old books are long gone as a result of moving across the country...

Sorry for late replies; 403Tinbasher those boxes are great! I've been focused on boxes for RF stuff but realized I could make some with hinges too as general purpose parts boxes. Great idea. And thanks Wally. I've lurked a bit here and found the same thing.
