  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. Terrible QC - Toilet Edition

Yup, that was us. Toilet tanks are two pieces of pottery, glued together with thick grout (slip). Fired at low temp to cure the grout. Smooth off any divots and rough bits, then glaze and finish fire the glaze. Plant is closing? Cool, we’ll speed up production by not using the slip and we’ll...

    Terrible QC - Toilet Edition

I used to work for Crane. Our toilets were made in a piecework factory, with a union workforce, who knew the plant was going to close and they’d all be out of work. So no QA at all. Did you know an exploding toilet tank on the 22nd floor of a high rise can flood down five lower floors? Got that...

    3-ton Dake press $400 Victoria

Luddite again. As you say, it's five teeth. By the time you make a d-bit, and figure out how to set up to cut this in a mill, or buy and renovate a shaper (even at the speed David works), it's still going to take longer than using a file. Make a brass tooth template, cut out the centre slot...

Herbert Lathe & Camelback Drill $5000 Valemount BC

SWMBO has vetoed my proposed drive to Valemount, and the requirement to punch a hole through our second floor dining room floor to accommodate a 12ft high drill press in a 9ft high first floor garage/shop. Sigh. Women can be so unreasonable.

Herbert Lathe & Camelback Drill $5000 Valemount BC

Maybe not a super deal, but glorious old iron. You’ll need a pretty solid trailer to haul these home. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2999751800203311/?

    Weiss VM32 CNC Conversion

That is quite the abundance of screw terminals. Careful wire labelling would probably be wise. And if you don’t already have one, get one of these: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0CRYJLG5W?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title Slicker than whale poop on an ice floe. No shorts or loose bits of wire and...

    Really ?

We’ve had automobiles for around 125 years. So a century+ of damages, injuries, and deaths caused by a simple mechanical issue common to every motor vehicle I’ve ever driven - the brake pedal is closer to your foot than the accelerator pedal. That old guy that plows through your fence and into...

    New tracking at Amazon

Kind of Big Brother-ish, but convenient. And think about the driver - they get tracked every second they're working.

    Really ?

Since I used to work for the company that makes the SquareFit tubing with holes, and the rivets that attach the signs to the tubing, I wholly support any and all sign installations. More signs = more sales = more employment.

Welcome from Vancouver! stuff that makes an RF-30 more fun: DRO, Vevor power feed, 2HP 240V 3-phase motor with VFD, replace the head lift hand crank with a nice big hand wheel, remove the annoying metal belt guard and replace it with a plexiglass shield, lots of tooling. we're all here more...

One less John on the Forum

A good friend from many years ago (best man at my wedding in 1984) transitioned in 2010, at age 57. Full support from their employer, their partner, Montreal did the SRS, went very well. Laura enjoys life much more than she ever did when she was Rick. Best story of the transition? When R was...

    Need some Lathe Work

Once had an engineer send me a spec sheet requiring a 40ft long section of 4" Sch40 steel pipe, epoxy coated and lined. I suggested if they could find me a 75mm tall Temporary Foreign Worker I could have the TFW drag the sandblast hose and nozzle into the pipe to clean the inside. Never heard...
