Welcome to Westwood Metalworks, What is he building in there?

Thanks for the tip. Never thought about trapped air in that way, but you can bet I will now lol. Makes total sense. Not that it would matter for this, but good practices are never a bad thing to work into ones work habits.

Looking closer at the bullnose I cut that with, it wasn't as sharp as It needed to be....The finish left by a brand new super sharp 3fl AL endmill was pretty decent. I guess foam is pretty picky.....

Middle done. Just a 5/8" spacer to bring the total width to 2.625. I left 1.25" to clean up off the width and od for a finished size of 2.5x6" Just glued together with super tack and pinned so it won't slide on me. Set a paint can on it to dry overnight, and will attach a spru tomorrow...

Welcome to Westwood Metalworks, What is he building in there?

Both halfs done. Not super happy with the surface finish, but I've only got 5000rpm to play with here..... If this casting works like I'm hoping this will open up some big possibilities and I'll buy/build a high speed router table. This will be the last time I cut this stuff on the...

Welcome to Westwood Metalworks, What is he building in there?

No big lathe here. Just a Myford super7 at home. Used to have a big one at my old day job. Now I just have various sizes of hammers.... lol Would love nothing more than to put at least 14" swing in here, but it'll have to wait until I either get another shed built, or build the lean to out...

    Product Cordless tools

3's will be fine on that impact. You really start to notice the bigger batteries on the higher draw tools like grinders and large impacts. They extra runtime actually makes them more of a usefull tool than a toy that runs out too quick.

Yep, Part held in chuck on arbour, lathe tool held in vise.

Thanks, Not really sure I should be anybody's role model though lol. I'll post either which way it goes (unless it kills me....).

Yep, you got it. I'm NOT expecting great results. Quite frankly I'm expecting a lot of chatter, and would be very (pleasantly) surprised if there wasn't. But it's the only way I can finish the OD of my belt grinder drive wheel with what I have right now. Well, it's not the only way, but one...

Shop Tools to keep out in the open?

As someone that struggles with object permanence, I like to keep everything out in the open where I can see it where it's ready to use. Might not be the best strategy for all, or for cleanliness, but sure helps with productivity. Precise tools, or measurement tools though I keep in drawers...

    DavidR8's shop shenanigans

Time travel is indeed possible. Anybody that says otherwise has never tried to build or fix anything, as you can very easily finish a day farther behind then where you started sometimes. I feel your pain.....

Welcome to Westwood Metalworks, What is he building in there?

Put some ribs on to smoke and decided to play in the shop for a bit. It's been a while..... Decided to give my new r8-myford spindle nose adapter a try. Looks sketchy, but should be handy for an upcoming part. Also made some progress towards machining the foam pattern for my drive wheel...

    2x72 grinder - Victoria $600

Probably trying to figure out how to apply ever changing tariffs... Jokes aside, I did check and mine shows prices.

Beaver wood bandsaw - $250 - Toronto, On

We met a guy at the ski hill this year that was 80. He was using this little homemade lever tool to do up his boots and I commented that I needed one too. He said "take a picture of it, and try to find a machinist to make you one" My Wife just started laughing as I introduced myself lol.

    Product Cordless tools

A few manufactures are making some pretty big strides in exoskeleton type stuff. I can only imagine where we'll be in 5-10 years. I think it was hilti that had one that was like an old camping frame pack and engine hoist had an illegitimate love child. Looked ridiculous, but I can think of a...
