  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Plastic Shed Repair

I'd make some staples from stainless wire and melt them in across the seams for structural support. Then get some sheet metal to cap the entire seam and glue it down. I'm not sure what kid of adhesive to use for this, but I'm 100% sure there's something out there that would do it better than...

If you could own just one special vehicle what would it look like?

Guess I missed this last flight over my house while I was at work. https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/N951HB/history/20250704/1855Z/CHF4/CHF4 Going by the data he was @3000' and about 280mph when he passed just east of me heading north. It's a pretty cool sight. That flight was a bit...

If you could own just one special vehicle what would it look like?

I have a "mustang guy" near me too (about 10k west). We're a popular spot for a lot of recreational/training flying, and he's flown over and around the house quite a few times in the last couple years. Absolutely amazing to watch this fly by at low altitude and full beans. The sounds is...

If you could own just one special vehicle what would it look like?

Reflecting on this since posting earlier, one of my "dream" cars as a teen was a Subaru 2.5rs coupe. I was always a big WRC fan back then, and a big Colin McRea fan too. Probably not too many good specimens left, but when they came out with that car in '98, I've kind of always wanted one since.

If you could own just one special vehicle what would it look like?

Rc166 In a round about way, this motorcycle is responsible for me becoming a machinist, and the drive behind building my home shop as I've always wanted to make a fully operational (and rideable) half scale model. I'm not much of a car guy TBH. Bikes though....

Shop Is your shop messy or spotless?

Yeah, it's convenient, but at $5/can it's spendy. There's also those sureshot pressurized sprayers too. Always wanted to try one, but again....I'm cheap.... Holy crap, they used to be like $45-50 and you could get them on sale for around $35. Now up near $100. I thought $50 was...

Shop Is your shop messy or spotless?

Buy a bulk jug of kerosene and a pump sprayer for aluminum. Cheaper and just as good/better than wd.

Fixing Slow Leak in Tractor Tire

My opinion on low speed tires with slow leaks like this is to simply just fill em, until they become fast leaks.... I can fill the tire a lot of times before I come close to the effort expended sticking a new tube in it. My experience with the expensive import tubes are they don't seem to last...

Anyone know there way around O/A torch brands?

I never would have guessed that was Aluminum. Felt like a hard plastic, but I'd guess that makes sense, the plastic probably wouldn't last very long.

    Milwaukee Cordless Tool storage idea

I've tried really hard to like these tool storage blocks that hang tools by the battery slot. One one hand, it's the perfect versatile solution because every tool has the same interface. On the other hand, due to the shape of the tool, they take up way more room than business end storage...

    Shop Garden Storage Shed

Once I started filling up the garage with machine tools, the woodworking tools had to find a new space. They went out to the barn in the enclosed, but unconditioned tack room. I made sure to wax all the bare cast iron surfaces, but that wasn't enough :(. Opening that door in the spring, I was...

Shop Is your shop messy or spotless?

WD is great for what is was designed for. Something gets wet, blow it off, spray some wd in there. It's a water displacement fluid (WD). Once you get the water out, use a more appropriate rust prevention fluid. The WD only leaves the light kerosene like film (but apparently it's NOT...

    Shop Garden Storage Shed

I've learned the lesson the hard way about not storing things I care about in unconditioned spaces. If you don't coat that saw in oil or wax, I wouldn't expect to see it in the same condition as when you put it in there.

Shop Is your shop messy or spotless?

Great advice I don't mind seeing repeated. I ONLY buy non chlorinated for that reason, so no worries about that here. It's a very easy thing that could happen though, so it's never a bad thing to bring awareness when the opportunity presents itself. How many of us check the label of what we're...
