I have a solution to shop layout optimization that people may be interested in... perhaps not even for the optimization purposes

Not only does it save a lot of shop space, it's very affordable.

It would make the allocation of shop space much easier if this was the size I had to fit in. Of course the rest of the space would fill with junk.

Yes, they are 1:32 scale machine tools. Great aide for laying out a shop if you have a 1:32 grid. Sure beats playing musical chair with full size machine tools.

There is a alternative in between CAD and moving the full sized items. I have made cardboard footprints of things and shuffled them around on graph paper - most recently it was tub, toilet, vanity, etc., for a bathroom reno, but the principle holds.

Have done same, both for shop layout and room planning. Pick a useful enough scale, and start shuffling cutouts of suitable size, around, to see how things might work or fit well.

If you have a supply of large enough cardboard, i.e. fridge boxes, you don't need no stinkin scale.

I'm going to buy a set of machines to make a little model of our shop.

If people want to wait I can model full size machines and then scale them down to make scale 3d printable files
