Working on my South Bend 9C

One part (mostly) modelled! Cutaway view to see the internals. Haven't figured out threads yet.
You can generate true threads if the CAD app has that feature or from base principles (a helical path at correct pitch & a thread form). Sometimes it needs to be done. But in practice its usually avoided if possible. It serves no purpose to mating other components & just chews up processing, but this advice is more coming from when you have large assemblies with hundres or thousands of fasteners. So good practice but typically just use cosmetic threads which is a glorified decal with a callout on drawings.

Yes I was just planning on cosmetic threads! That can be tonight's project.

Huh, this is kind of fun actually.

I think I've got enough underway to get a good visual on the new dimensions!

Holy Fk! Please don't tell me that you did that from scratch! If so, I'm gunna go make sure my grave yard payments are up to date. Time to push me in guys! Wife will help!

No, I used existing nib and feed models but I had to modify them a decent bit. I did get all three parts I make modelled though!

We may have some actual progress. Made the mandrel, finished the first set of operations on this piece (tenon, threads, and a bore).

Next we flip, and hold in the mandrel to bore and tap the internals, and then rough shape the outside.

Threads are a bit loose so I'll keep a closer eye on my dimensions (but good enough for this test). Also still rougher to the touch than I want.

Two parts that thread together! Still want to snug up a tighter fit in the threads next time. The body has external threads too so next is the cap. Aaaaand then the internal mandrels so I can shape the exteriors, which is where I had issues last time.
