Working on my South Bend 9C

My dad came home one day when the phone rang running upstairs stubbing his toe to answer the phone and found a guy on the other end telling him that he was hooked on Nalleys Potato chips, They were talking for a good half hour about ways he could give them up.

Remember party lines and rotary phones? That should get the geriatrics going, especially the prairie folk when that was breakthrough technology in 201
hey those rotory phones were new technology to our household at one time...I can remember standing on a box to reach the mouthpiece on the "then modern" phones that you cranked a handle on the side to wake up the operator and then recited a # for her to hook you up to....and yes everybody in the district knew your business because of the "phone operator" and all the other the old biddies that listened to every call made so they could "re-broadcast" all the juicy stuff!!

I guess it depends on where you were, we had party lines till sometime in the early 2000’s. An answering machine was no good as it picked all the calls to everyone up and then did not hang up, tying the line up. So it was funny, you could have a cell phone, but it would not work where we were, so had to use the land line to call out, but you could call us from a cell phone and it came in on the land line. Walk to the top of the driveway and phone home with the cell phone.

I guess counterbalancing it is probably the first place to start. Bolting or magnetizing stuff to the drive plate makes me nervous

Agreed. I'm not cozy with bolting or magnets either.

I think its mostly a balance issue too.

But your tool cutting tip grind seems to have too big a radius.
