@someidiot I'm not gonna lie, I've looked into acquiring one off these terminating presses in the past (after i injured my hand being a dumbass and terminating about 1000 terminals with a non-ratcheting hand crimper a few years ago). Of course, since then i have not done much in the line of relatively large wire terminal crimping (the strength in my left hand still hasn't fully come back). Do you happen to know what dies you have for the Molex and AMPHENOL machines? I think that's the biggest sticking point on these machines used, and something i am not geared up to manufacture myself (no mill... yet).

@140mower Don, Your machine also piques my interest. Even though i have been saying I'm trying to down-size my obscure machine collection, These are the sort of thing i may be able to fit into the space of my old Delta 28-560, and may actually make better use of once i part ways with the old girl (of course i am sure i will immediately regret parting with my last vertical wood bandsaw) 🙄
 
Sure, I can take a look - the only dies are what are in them. Before moving them home, we actually used one of them in our own production, and were thinking about using the other, but as you indicate, it came down to the dies. Please note, though: AMP (now Tyco) and Amphenol are not the same company. Don and I probably have the same Molex machine.

Do you know which dies you need(ed), or which terminal series you were working with?
 
Hmmm... okay... The K-press doesn't have a die set, and now that I think back on it, I'm not certain it ever did - it was running in the shop of a company we did design work for, and they may have improvised something, possibly for something other than the intended wire termination. It's also possible that they never returned to me the dies it came with. But that doesn't mean you can't still use it with the appropriate dies.

The Molex is a TM-40D. It does have dies, but they've picked up a little surface rust (it's been stored in my garage, not out in the elements) and I can't readily see the numbers. I can get a light in there, clean it up, and see what comes up.

In any case, if by "cowtown" you mean Calgary, you're welcome to pop out and take a look.
 
@oddballracing - I see "south Calgary" in one of your posts. That puts you probably a half-hour from my place.

And now that I'm thinking of it, I believe I have a reel of terminals here as well for one of these things.

That is correct, DeWinton area. The proximity to you is probably what tempts me the most. I expect this work week to be a little bit of madness, but I work the late shift, so I'll probably PM you to see if you have time one of the mornings this week.
 
As long as you give me a little notice (so I know not to run off suddenly) I'm always available.

At the moment the focus is on yard cleanup before the snow falls, and these crimpers are about making room in the garage for the mill that's going to have to come home pretty soon too.
