I have this bench and the one side of the frame snapped. I'm wondering if it's possible to weld it. Back when I took gas welding at NAIT brazing was the only choice for cast iron but now we have things like TIG.

Is it even worth it?

I did some silicon bronze mig once, but it was more or less crack filling, nothing that would have a lot of stress on it. It did seem to meld together OK though.

Hmmm. All my coated brazing rod has had the coating flake off probably because it's over 20 years old. Haven't brazed in years. Why bother when you can 3D print..........

Could be done with my eyes closed...... Shame you are not closer.
Flaked off coating on your low fuming braze ( LFB ) rod, no problem.
20 mule team borax powder works! From walmart.

Heat and dip, braze away.

Otherwise 55% nickel or 99% nickel content cast iron rod, ( I can mail you some ).

OR my personal favorite,
cast iron fusion welding.... Not common nor taught any more.
Perfect color match and as close as original as you are ever going to get.

My vote, BRAZING!

and it looks cool

Kintsugi, which translates to "golden joinery" or "golden repair." Rather than disguising the damage, Kintsugi highlights and celebrates the history of the object, making it even more unique and valuable.
