I will be having some disability time coming up. I am thinking about redoing my website in HTML so I can change it easily and have full control of it. Also, I will save a lot of cost. I am looking a cheap software and have a few options but want to use a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get ( interface) GUI. This will be kick off in about two weeks. First i need to deal with this medical issue.

I think the biggest problem with an HTML website is adapting to the users screen size. You would be better off using WordPress which is supported almost everywhere now.

Google Sites is free while still allowing use of your own domain name. Somewhat limited but quite simple to update. I use it for the Hamilton Model Engineering web site. (I got fed up with WordPress )

If you really want WordPress or similar, then hosting at Rebel.com (Canadian host) is not too expensive.

The reason I want to do this is because I hired a company to do it. They have a proprietary software and also host the website. If I need any changes, it costs 100 / hour. Their monthly fee is 40 plus domain renewal every year. Most of the website is berried under there own directories. I want full control as I had when my old website was under Hostupon. I can copy the source code, but like I said, much is buried under their own private directories, so button done work, background graphics.. etc. I am looking competitors websites and like the content much more. I don't want to pay this service provider much dollars to change- rewrite it.

It was ever thus @Matt-Aburg. If you want to free up your own time, you gotta pay someone else. If you want to reduce cost, you gotta do more yourself.

I used to use WebEasy and I liked the total control. But the world has switched to more powerful tools, so I had to make a choice. WordPress seemed like it would have the best longevity so that's the main reason why I chose it. I'm not saying that I love it. I just don't like it when I have to learn all new programs to keep up with the world around me.

I did my own website. Well worth the effort because you can tweak it whenever you want for free.

I have had hosting at ICDSoft for many years now (15+). When I first started they were the least expensive and may still be. Total control for me. Pretty much straight HTML for my usage, but they also support/provide Wordpress and other tools you may find interesting/useful.

ICDSoft hosts in US, no end of issues with that IMHO. Rebel.com is marginally more expensive but no risk of DMCA etc.

HostPapa.ca used to be fine but turned into an upsell nightmare, ending with them deleting my sites with zero notice.

Can you share the site's URL? What does the site do? Dynamic vs static etc? If dynamic things may be complicated, but if it's just a static site, I'd redo it in WordPress with Elementor. Free, powerful and quick ..... drives something like 40% of the world's web sites. Drag and drop. Like anything new, there is a learning curve, but soon you can knock out a decent site in a day or two.

I learned it and redid a bunch of sites from scratch. I started when I got a $1000 quote to change what I thought was a small thing. (it was small thing, literally 5 minutes work). It's become a real asset as I can add to and change my businesses sites all the time for about zero cost.
