the Giant Corliss Live Steam Engine - 16" flywheel!

For Sale. I call this the Giant Corliss. It was a project initiated by some guys at the Hamilton Model engineering club and only three sets of castings were made. What a project - a do-it-yourself cast iron engine of extra large proportions - a 16 inch flywheel!

The man who made this was a craftsman of impressive skill. It's very well made (certainly up to my standards and I’m fussy) except for some misplaced holes for the valve covers. I speculate that the years caught up with him and sadly he was unable to finish the engine. The messed up whole locations perhaps foretold the end of his model engineering endeavor. Sad, but we're all just custodians of this stuff and it's time for care to pass to someone else. I was waffling between doing some rework to fix that or getting a large piece of dura bar and making a new cylinder

I purchased it in its current condition with the expectation of finishing it. I was waffling between doing some rework to fix that or getting a large piece of dura bar and making a new cylinder. However with a current project slate that'll take 800 plus years to complete means that’s unlikely so I've decided to sell it.

To my knowledge no drawings exist however I will include a set of the Coles Corliss engine drawings. As all of the major pieces are complete, it shouldn't be too challenging to freelance the remaining parts such as valve links and throttle using the cordless drawings as a guide.

I'm based in Toronto and am frequently in the Niagara area during the week. Pick up would be ideal but I will ship. Within Canada E transfers are fine.

$1000.

Thanks, Mike

Thank God: just saw this thread and was very tempted (my High School had a full-size Corliss Engine as part of the Utility Plant, so I was getting nostalgic and checking my 401K balance).
