I found a 0.0001” Tesatast DTI for sale ($120 + shipping from Quebec). Swiss made but i know nothing about them. Anyone have experience with this brand?

FYI - i found this AI generated info about Tesa:
Key Aspects of TESA DTIs and their Reviews:
  • Swiss-made Quality:
TESA, along with other Swiss brands like Compac, Interapid, and Brown & Sharpe, are often cited as producing some of the best DTIs available, known for their smooth, accurate, and repeatable measurements.

  • Accuracy and Precision:
Reviews often focus on the accuracy and precision of the DTI, including its ability to measure small changes in dimensions and maintain consistent readings.

  • Durability and Construction:
Reviewers may comment on the DTI's construction, noting the quality of materials, the smoothness of the movement, and the overall robustness of the tool.

  • Ease of Use:
Features like the ease of setting up the DTI, its readability, and its sensitivity are also often discussed in reviews.

  • Specific Models:
Reviews may focus on particular TESA DTI models, like the Compac 214GA (long travel/large dial) or the Compac 215GA (tenths indicator).

  • Applications:
Reviewers might highlight the DTI's suitability for various applications, such as automotive work, engineering, or general workshop use.

  • Alternatives:
Reviewers often compare TESA DTIs to other brands like Mitutoyo, Starrett, and Federal, discussing the pros and cons of each.

Does the book give any indication of how this DTI compares to ithers?
In the forward he says "some of the finest test indicators ever manufactured". Also compares to Last Word indicators but otherwise no real comparison. But it seems to me that in general these Swiss made DTI's were regarded as the best.

I'm not very familiar with the brand myself but often you will see its name standalone or amalgamated with Brown & Sharp (so = made under license for?). Anyway I suspect good stuff. Some of the specialty instrumentation places were still servicing older models & selling parts, but (at least the places I was thinking of) have kind of closed their doors to regular folks.

Its probably junk. You should just send it to me. I'll pick up half of shipping LOL

This morning I was looking at a 0.0001 Mitutoyo selling at $204 on Amazon and thinking that was maybe a better deal for than the used $120 kijiji Tesatast. Then Amazon bumped up the price to $240. From a different seller, Amazon also had a Mitutoyo 0.0001 DTI for $185 +tax (see pic below). I ordered it before they bumped up the price on me. It arrives Wednesday.

I use a B&S Bestest (same factory, as far as I can tell) at work, and am very happy with it. My recollection is Robin Renzetti likes them as well, I think because they had a lower gauging force than some others in the same league.

FYI here’s the link to the kijiji seller. I talked to him. Seems like an ok guy - IMO definitely not a scammer.

He has some other interesting machinist items & at least describes them more or less properly. Scammers from other parts of the world probably would not have these for sale. Although with AI these days it wont take long before they build this into the camouflage. Now if it said 'ice broom' I would be suspicious.
