  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. 'fair' can mean lots of things including worn out ways. 'Fair' for production grinding can include the flatness over the entire length of the ways. Fair for hobby use can be a different thing. If the bearings are shot in the spindles, then these are strictly for a machine rebuilder. And a hobby rebuilder at that. These are too old and used up to target them for professional use. A professional rebuilder wouldn't touch either machine, even for free. For hobby use it is possible to use a machine with worn ways; Bad bearings are a simple no-go.

I paid over 3000$ for a Brown and Sharpe 6X12 with great bearings and very good ways. I still think I did okay, and perhaps better than okay.

A set of ABEC7 bearings for my machine would cost over 4000$ for the front pair, and the rear ABEC5 bearing is about 400$.
