Standard Modern Hybrid Lathe

So this is a first for me - found this while shopping for my coworker who is looking for a ~13" lathe for his shop.

I've not seen a commercially made hybrid lathe (hybrid between cnc and manual). This is reminiscent of @slow-poke lathe conversion, same brand and obviously fairly old looking (late 80's or early 90's?)
Curious what they're asking, but I hate it when they put request a quote on it when I'm just idlly browsing.
Neat seeing it have 2 encoder knobs and no handwheels.

A touch too far as we are in Ottawa (5 hour drive x 2), not enough accessories (only 1 chuck), not enough detail for him to risk it. It went for about $100 over what I said his max bid should be based on what we knew about it (what I said was $1200 max, sold for $1325).
We've got views on a bunch more lathes, not in a big hurry. Hopefully we find him a shop closing down type sale with tooling and chucks, as opposed to someone selling off a lathe that they've worn out and are keeping all their tools and accessories.

Don't forget to watch GC Surplus. There have been quite a few nice looking machines coming out of the NRC's Montreal Road Facility in the past two years.

I listened to an interview with a guy down in California (working as an R&D engineer on batteries for Tesla) who has something similar, a Trak 16x30. Sounds like a great solution! Work in whatever units you like/need to, cut whatever threads you like, change 'handwheel' resolution, interpolate tapers or curves while turning only one wheel...

I do wonder if there are some compromises on ergonomics (ex., if the handwheels are largely vestigial, it's tempting to make them tiny, and awkward to use for longer periods).
