major advantage over SB9 - Utilathe is gear head for speed changesOK, learning time. Advantages/disadvantages over my SB9?
No & yes.Does the south bend have its motor in the pedestal? Also does the south bend have power cross slide?
I can't speak for the Standard Modern, but the South Bend 9a and 9b have a keyway that runs the full length of the leadscrew and drives a feather key in the apron. Very little if any wear on the leadscrew at all. This one does not have the separate feed rod and lead screw. So power feed undoubtedly wears out the lead screw which would be the same as your sb9.
I believe it's 41-1270.The SM spindle speed range 50-1500, how does that compare to the SB?
Good to know. Didn’t know that. The 9" Utilathe has the key way on the leadscrew.
The collective mind here is pretty amazing.......Good to know. Didn’t know that.
This for sure. See this with collector cars. Car covered in dust and dirt boxes stacked on it and they guy wants top dollar. Clean it up a little bit, you might not get any more for it but it will definitely sell sooner. And I yet again wonder why sellers don't take 6 minutes to remove all the junk and wipe off a bit of the grime from the machine they are selling. Might not sell for more, but likely sell quicker if you can actually see the whole thing, rather than a pile of junk with a lathe underneath..
