  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Splined coupler

A variation on the theme is that the crank handle retracts the pin (the 2 disks stay close to one another all the time). Maybe a better solution in that the center shaft doesn't need to be as long, and doesn't get in the way while cranking.
 
Princess Auto may have something like this you could modify to work. Pair of sprockets attached via roller chain - compact and flexible IMG_3552.jpegIMG_3553.jpeg
