  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Spindle noise

My bet is a skidding ball in a bearing, and as they are all sealed / shielded (ZZ) its going to be hard to get any lube into them.
we saved dozens of bearings for change at a more opportune time on the farm with an old hypodermic needle used to push a small amount of grease in under the lips on sealed bearings. some "treated bearings" might get another month use out of them with one treatment.

I purchase most all of my bearings from 123 Bearing online, I also get seals from them. I rebuild vintage Italian motorcycles and they have been able to find me the most obscure metric sized bearings that are direct matches to OEM from the 1940's to 80's. I send them pictures / diagrams of what I need, very good communication and fast shipping. SKF (and most all other 'brand names') can be manufactured across the world, including China and India. I ask for European manufactured bearings for all engine / transmission bearings I replace.

123 Bearing can match a bearing to your machines operational specifications.

Have you considered changing to a link belt?

Busy Bee sells them, I replaced the V belt on my 12 x 36 gearhead lathe and the machine runs much smoother, vibration pretty much eliminated, same for my Atlas Shaper and Atlas Horizontal Mill, I plan to do the same on my Knee Mill as well.

cheers

Jim
