I Tried, It Broke

Today I needed some small, thick, spacers. 1/4” i.d., 1/2” o.d., 1/8” thick. Definitely not something I’m going to find at Rona or Home Depot.

So I grab a chunk of round bar, thinking I’ll chuck it in the lathe, turn the o.d., bore the i.d., part off, debur.

Then I remember I had just made a control panel for one of my cnc engravers, and in that process I had used my Roper Whitney #12 punch to make a bunch of 1/2” holes in a chunk of 1/8” 6061 plate.

And the dropouts were still in the tray. Pop in a 1/4” punch & die, line up the punch with the existing divot in the dropout, turn the handle 90*. Perfect washer, no burrs, two minutes to make four washers.

Only tricky bit was getting tje washers off the punch, solved with a 1/4” open end wrench and a bit of leverage.
