Something off with Vevor

I made it very clear to them that that the cost of making good their promises to me was very, very tiny compared to the business they would lose when I trumpeted their behavior widely on all the major social media platforms. They folded quite quickly.
I have already done that by starting this thread but I don't want to be perceived as making threats against these guys in case it weakens my claim with Visa.

As of this morning the offer is $164.00 or a new motor, I'm tempted to jump at it but there's a chance he might just send me a motor that someone else returned.
I haven't responded yet, I might ask if their warehouse is somewhere in the greater Toronto area and go and p/u myself to make sure the motor is new and avoid any possible damage that might happen during shipping.

Partly this nonsense is cultural, this is how they do business with each other. Conceding at the first chance is not their way.
I realized early on that the game of making you do a video and posting it to a private Utube site is a good way to discourage return demands.
 
I have a lengthy story to tell about Vevor, but I've been advised to keep it brief.

I sent customer service a note asking for them to contact a supplier so I could get extra wheels for my machine skates.

For the first month, the dialog was evasive, overly apologetic, and worse, adversarial. They could have just said "we won't help you order parts. That is the polite thing to do. An honest response.

The next month, they offered to give me a lathe skate for free for the wheels, as a way to compensate me for the (now quite) escalated exchange. we even agreed on the item by referencing links.

When it arrived, it was 4,000 buttons - the kind you use to put artwork inside and pin on your shirt, such as support for some ideology, etc. When I pointed out the mistake, we got in to a 3 week argument over how my original order did not include a button press.

I finally clued in to the fact the people I were dealing with spoke no English at all, and were using a poor translation program. My next take was to use simple sentences with a single verb and noun, pointing out their offer, their evasion, and their inability to send an in-stock item to me - and that worked. three weeks later, a new machine skate arrived, after over 50 messages sent to me and 60 responses, from October 1 to January 10th.

These interactions are not about substance. They are about your manner of communication.
 
Dabbler, I think you are pretty spot on , culture and language play a huge role. I have spoken to the gang in BC, to solve problems, and they speak clear english...however, I understood that they don't make the decisions. Someone who does not think and speak like us does.

So now I have this smooshed motor, pretty big dent in the front cover.
I hate to toss out a new 2hp motor so I took it apart and as far as I can tell only the front cover is damaged, I put the rotor in the lathe and it is still true.
I guess I could try and make a cover but I'm not sure I have enough experience yet.
I might take the cover up to electric motor rebuild shop and see if they have something that will work.

I hate to toss out a new 2hp motor so I took it apart and as far as I can tell only the front cover is damaged, I put the rotor in the lathe and it is still true.
I guess I could try and make a cover but I'm not sure I have enough experience yet.
I might take the cover up to electric motor rebuild shop and see if they have something that will work.
I'm not a licensed motorologist but if it spins freely and the capacitors aren't damaged I'd put it into service.

If you want to recover the motor, grind the smooshed part flat just so it doesn't bolt down crooked and then clock all the screw holes to new ones at whatever angle makes sense to be on an original flat plane which I presume is perpendicular to the axis of rotation.

The cover prolly doesn't matter. But Bondo and some krinkle paint can hide a lot of sins.
 
Well another X for Vevor.

I ordered a drill dispenser cabinet, when I ordered it they claimed it would be delivered today. Looks like UPS finally has it in BC as of today and now it will be delivered Friday if I'm lucky. Not a big deal but don't advertise a delivery date and then ship a week later.
 
The motor doesn't spin freely, the housing for the front bearing is bent just enough to make it bind so if I'm going to try and make it usable I really need to replace the cover.

Is the bearing displaced by the bent housing or the flange or both?
 
Wait a minute, keep forgetting I own a milling machine, I think I might be able to repair this cover.
I have a 20T press so that will flatten it out and take care of the warp, mill the bearing housing round again and as Susquatch says, cut the bent section out and fab up a cover to seal off the hole and add a bit of structure.
This is getting interesting now, when it's working again I'll send a photo to Vevor ;)
