I received notification of a delivery yesterday at about 1 pm. I was in the shop and I can typically hear anyone walking up the gravel driveway.
Go look in the mailbox. Nothing, Doorstep. Nothing. Next door neighbors nothing.
So I email the vendor who send me proof of delivery this morning including photos of the package on the doorstep of a house, a picture of the package label and a picture of the house number.
Package address is correct and the house number is the same as my house but it's not my doorstep. It's a house a block away on a parallel street thus the same number.

I walk over to the house this morning, ring the bell. Tell them they have a package of mine that was mis-delivered. Dude says "Oh, let me go check if we have it"

Comes back, hands me the opened package and says, "Yeah we had no idea what this was"

In my head I thought, "it wasn't addressed to this house or anyone living at this house, why did you open it?"

Took it and walked away...

Who opens a package that isn't addressed you?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

In their defence I have done the same thing by mistake. My business is at my home and we get so many deliveries, sometimes I open them up before looking at who they are from or addressed to.
I also get my neighbors mail quite often but have never opened a letter. I always stick it in their mailbox on my way to town. They just get it a day late.

Not gonna say it's never happened

As others have stated, it does happen by mistake. But sometimes it isn't.

We had a situation similar to yours recently. My wife ordered a big puzzle board as a gift for her sister. It was delivered to the wrong house. We had photos like yours. Not only that but the delivery person knew she had made a mistake and told us so.

The woman at the house took it and refused to admit she ever got it. Basically, she stole it. How she can think anyone believes she never got it is beyond me.

I often plow snow for the neighbours. Her driveway did not get plowed. We will never think about her in a good way again.

LOL idiots...both the delivery guy and the wrong address recipient. Glad you finally got it.

I had a package delivered the same way a while back but the OP was kind enough to drive it over!

Not sure how commercial deliveries are treated but after a discussion with Canada Post I found that they believe that once something is delivered, whoever receives it has the right to keep it!

They take no responsibility for correct delivery!

D

I've heard that before too. If it arrives at your door, it's yours.

That said, it totally lacks integrity and ethics. It's certainly not neighbourly. And dare I say it..... It's NOT Canadian.

I had been waiting for an Ali express parcel for a very long time. It finally showed up in my mail box, I quickly open it, to realized they screw up the order big time. Duh! it was not mine but my neighbors . I felt so guilty bad , I had open someone parcel. I drove over to the correct address and knock on the door and explained what happen. The guys was super nice , made me feel comfortable and then we started to talk about our similar hobbies and now we are great friends.
I don't care what the commercial couriers say, but if a parcel is delivered to my house and it is not mine I will be happy to deliver myself to the right owner, hopefully un-opened.

I've been on both ends of this. when we got something for the next street over, I took it over to them. So far (!) have not had anything never-to-be-seen-again by being delivered wrong.

it's pretty messed how packages can be "claimed" like that...even more so that people think it's ok to lay claim to things...
that's how the porch pirate revenge guy on youtube got started isn't it...that spinner thing with half a pound of glitter in it is pure genius...

Here's a for instance on trying to be a good person...the home I have, the previous owners have both passed on...their son (in his 60's) is looking after the estates etc...
After 4 years, we're still getting mail from the banks they dealt with, as well as a couple of charity's they used to donate to...
The charity stuff, we know that's just them begging for money, so those get "no longer at this address, recipient deceased" and dropped back in the mailbox.

But anything to do with the PO's businesses, or the banks...That I hand deliver to the next door neighbors. They were pretty close friends with the old owners, and stay in touch with their kids. So it isn't a hassle or issue to walk the odd envelope over.

My hope is that karma will pay the act forward...cuz one day...it might be my better 3/4's or my kid that's looking after my stuff...

Same here, but only 2-1/2 years so far. The lady apparently now lives in a nearby town, they moved when her husband passed. I sent her mail to her new address (which I finally got from a neighbor) for the first 1-1/2 years, writing her and asking that she update those banks. After the first time she sent a thank you note. Now I just write "Please forward or return to sender" with her new address clearly written. I never met her, but she's in her 80's and for all I know she has million$ that she is not looking after. I guess it's time again to see if any of the neighbors she was friendly with have been in touch.

Current address for 15 years, still get the occasional mail for the previous owner. The Bay has mispelled SWMBO's name for the same amount of time, and nothing we try can get it corrected.

Picture a teeter-totter. Put the word <Corporate> on one end. Put the word <Intelligence> on the other end. As one goes up, the other goes down. Applies to all hierarchal agencies.

Reminds me of another one - the corporate ladder. Those at the top looking down see nothing but smiling faces. Those at the bottom looking up see nothing but..........
