  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. I scored an Oxy/Acetylene gas saver. It's appears to be complete and in decent condition. It is quite old and pretty dirty. Can anyone recommend an individual or shop in the Calgary area to clean and service it before I hook it up?

It's a set of valves that go between the regulators and the torch. It has a lever to hang up the torch. the lever closes the valves. It also has a pilot light. When you need to pause welding and hang up torch it shuts off. When you restart just pick up the torch and pass it by the pilot light and it relights with all the original settings. Saves relighting and readjusting over and over again.

Now I'll be darned. I never thought of PA as a source. Probably and Asian import. And yes the name brand ones are expensive. The one I got is very used so I didn't pay near that price! I think the original North American manufacturer was Weldit, but it was sold by all the majors under their brand name, Harris, Smith, Victor es all.
 
To your question, if you were in my neck of woods I’d send you to Atlantic Torch & Regulator. There must be an equivalent where you are.

They went over my cutting torch, replaced o-rings, fixed a leaky valve, glass beaded it and handed it back to me for something like $25. Didn’t expect that! :)

I could have used your gas saver a million times fixing old rusty cars.:oops:
