Self-Clearing Customs

Has anyone self-cleared customs lately for items from China? Specifically UPS and I'm looking at a VFD.

I'm looking for personal experiences and what hoops you had to jump thru. I've been to the CBSA website but most of their pages haven't been update in at least a year.

DM me if you don't want to talk in the open.

TIA

Not a lot of first hand experience. But the first thing to determine is it worth your time and gas money.

You'll need to visit a CBSA office in person. Plus you will need to go to the UPS/Fedex depot usually in person. Unless you live in close proximity to both of those. Might not be worth the time depending on the items value.

I fully believe the fees UPS and FedEx charge are criminal. But time vs reward is important too me.

yes, I've done it was very painless but that's only because there is a CBSA 24/7 site not too far away. If I had to travel during rush hour or wait in line I'd be telling you how much sucked lol. I'm early so went at 5 on a Sat or Sunday morning, in and out in a few minutes. Was pleasant and polite and had no issues. UPS was also very helpful telling me how to do it. It's like they figure if we have some good people helping, it'll defuse the angry customers (and it did lol)

Being retired time isn't a big issue and at $.02 per km travel costs aren't to bad even if I have to go to the airport and UPS.

I read a thread on Reddit where CBSA was all done over the phone and email. When UPS showed up the driver was presented with the emailed B-15 form marked paid and all was good. The form was also sent to UPS accounting to prove all was paid.

I've emailed CBSA for the latest info and procedures but haven't heard back from them.
