  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Scope level

Hell I just wanted to show the level and how it’s used instead we got a can of worms!
We are all told of the violence’s in the news but the original source of the weapon is kept silenced in most cases I think probably because of all the guns coming from the states.
I just received my pal about a month ago it took around 8 weeks, all the paperwork was filled out and with 2 sponsors for them to call to verify my mental state but no one was called that tells me just how much they are concerned about legal gun owners.

I took the course at cabela’s I said I never had a permit so they would do a proper search even though I had rifles and pistols until 78, I even was a member of the police range behind Thetis Lake in Victoria

I had two sons who wished to hunt, so I got a PAL very early. I gave my wife and a couple of buddies at work as references. They all enjoyed enjoyed conversation. For the government, time wise, it was a costly.

Thanks for being open about your opinion.

If any subject except our core became a problem, we would probably just add it to the list. We don't cater to any specific groups. We just strive to keep the peace.

I might add that there are quite a few members who think that we should not allow any discussion beyond metal working at all.

Personally, I think we do a good job of finding the right balance and I am grateful to all those who have let me know that privately.

If you can name a forum that does a better job, we would be happy to examine their policies and rules to see if we can learn from them.
It’s fair to say this isn’t my house and I have to play by the rules. I’ve read the rules multiple times and never noticed a mention of not showing guns.

Almost every other forum out there that has an off topic and it is use at your own risk and risk being offended. If you don’t wanna be offended don’t go in the off topic.

Why the hide and seek? For the most part we are all adults and who cares if we disagree on subjects. When you have a meet up do you list all the rules of topics not allowed?

I personally feel you either need to go full on metal only or allow it all. There is no middle ground.

Legal gun owners should not be hiding in the corner like this forum seems to want. Cars kill more people that guns and there lots of machind parts on cars so why not block them too? See how ridiculous this gets…..

Who is the bear we should not be poking?

Historicalarms, it is those very comments that I for one find offensive . Unlike most here who went to university to study engineering, I studied history and economics . I have also been involved in politics at the very highest level . I hunt, shoot F-class, and sporterize old military rifles. I'm considered an amateur gunsmith at least by those who ask me to make them a stock. But those politics of paranoia have no place in machining forum. There are more at home on Canadian Gunnutz . BTW, not all that call themselves gunsmiths are even competent machinists !

Curious what part you find offensive? Do you feel banning information is good? Do you think owning a blueprint or cad file for metalworking should be illegal and punishable by jail? Owning a milling machine illegal? This isn’t tinfoil here.

And what about those people that like to cut their grass or water it so it will grow!

"Paranoia"...you should read the OIC of May 1st 2020 in its entirety if you think my post is paranoid, if you cant find a reason for every machinist, hobby or otherwise to be concerned you may be very right that discussing it in a machinist forum is pointless...but I'm thinking not a lot of us want to be "ostrich's" until it is to late.

An example of what @historicalarms is talking about- Australia is expanding their machete ban. Unless you check your local machete laws you could possess an "illegal weapon". The other half of that coin is crocodile Dundee "now that's a knife!" could be called a machete , when it's not a machete.

I don't think that's political.
