I used a combination of glass and magnetic for my old mill, no complaints with either.

I seem to recall someone on this forum commenting about stick on scale tape, I would like to look into this for the new mill.

Can anyone shed some light on this approach?
What about the read head?
Links?

Thanks in advance.

Lots of that discussion on here. Too many to list. Just search on magnetic or tape.

FWIW, I have tried it and it works just fine. After my 3ph & VFD Lathe conversion, I'm gunna put stick-on tape INSIDE my cross slide!

You can get stick-on tape from most of the DRO suppliers. Aikron seems to have the best deals.

The read head works exactly the same regardless of how the tape is installed.
