Now that I know about keeping 3D printing filament dry I probably would have put these reels in plastic along with some desiccant. But years ago I didn't know any better. Is this stuff scrap? Or do I try unwinding until I find the shiny stuff again?

I had a spool of 0.035" that was also rusty and was already loaded in the welder. I pulled it out. Cleaned the rollers and unwound the rusty stuff.

Then did some welding for the first time in 5 years. Next the torch to make it easier to give it a spoon shape with a bit of blacksmithing and finally heat the rebar and add a bend. New tool to scrape the dross off the top of melted aluminum.

Now I no longer have an excuse to not fire up the foundry furnace and make ingots from all the scrap. Ingots take up way less space.
