Oops! That was just fumble fingers. Should have said 1.5 HP. That would have been a game changer, for sure. Like when I installed my first DRO. That was truly game changing for me. Can’t imagine using a mill without a DRO now, although I did so for many months before installing that system. Keeping track of hand wheel turns in my head, worrying about backlash, etc. The DRO eliminated those headaches instantly.

Hmm… can’t seem to edit that earlier post to correct my mistake.

I totally agree. I put a Shumatech DRO-350 on my mill within a few months of buying it. It's what kept me from converting to CNC for so many years. With a probe finding the center of a hole or outside of something round. Hole patterns. All those features were on the DRO. All I added for automation was power feed on the knee because cranking it with a poor fitting handle was a pain.

I’ve got a feed system that I bought at auction even though it doesn’t fit my mill; price was quite good and I thought “I should be able to fit this up with a little surgery”. That’s my next mill project. But converting my wood bandsaw to metal duty is likely next in line. We’ll see.
