If the mm dial is set screwed to the lead screw where does the 100 tooth gear come into play?The mm dial is set screwed to the lead screw. It has a very fine 100 tooth gear. The inch dial has a 127 tooth internal gear. Its center of rotation is offset so only a few of the gears teeth mesh. One rotation of the handle moves the slide 2.5mm, 5mm on diameter. Rotating the handle a bit further and the slide moves 0.1” or 0.2” on the diameter.
