Tool Replacing a spring punch tip

I have a vintage Craftsman 4054 spring punch that has lost its tip.
Really like the punch as it has a substantial spring and makes a visible mark as compared to my Starrett punch which seems barely penetrate the Dykem/Sharpie.
I'd like to replace the tip but don't know what to use. I don't have any tool steel.
Wondering what else I could use to make a new tip.
 
The collection of small, broken taps that you undoubtedly have might be a possibility. I have never had one of those punches so I don't know how small or exact dimensions you're after.

It's pretty small, maybe .11" or so diameter.

Apparently it’s smaller than 7/64”…
Maybe I’ll use the D-bit grinder to reduce the diameter of a 7/64 punch till it fits.
 
How close is it? Could you chuck it in the lathe and take it down to size with emery? At least that way it would stay round(er).
 
Cheap scribers with replaceable carbide tips are 1/8” shanks. $12 off Amazon.

Looks like the bore is the diameter of a #39 drill shank.
But there's something else going on because the end of the drill only goes into the bore about 1/8" so methinks that it actually screwed in and tip broke where the threads met the body.
:( Getting the remainder out ain't gonna be easy.
 
Why do we keep going to Amazon and McMaster-Carr still? Just asking. I know it's convenient and all that but with Amazon most of it comes from China via US. 20% on entry to US, who knows what on entry to Canada.

No that's a smart idea! Yes I think on these particular jaws there would be enough room for a thin o ring. I will have to keep that in mind for next set.
 
I'm still using an O1 center punch made in high school. I have diameter sizes like 3mm, 4mm, possibly 1/8". But maybe turning it down more of a headache than other sources?
Heat is pretty easy with a torch & dip in whatever oil you have laying around. Temper in oven at 475 when she's not looking :/
 
Just an interesting fact l thought ld share, ordered some parts for a friend in the UK from McMaster-Carr because they don’t ship to UK. McMaster-Carr cancelled my order stating we don’t ship to Canada. In bold letters they stated YOUR ORDER HAS BEEN CANCELED.
Due to the cost and complexity of shipping out products to Canada.

They’ll only ship to businesses in Canada. I emailed back with a copy of my sole proprietor registration, no issues since.
 
I’m just a hobbyist metal worker at best, so it leaves me to find things in Canada. The more l do the more things l find l need from a business like McMaster-Carr. Don’t have any problems with Amazon.ca but there are a few things l find on Amazon.com that l can’t get here in Canada. Being that lm still a rookie lm always looking for answers from the forum. Thanks all.
 
Going out on a limb here but does the punch have a lifetime guarantee?

I’ve been down that path with a Blue Point (Snap-On) punch. I told them the P/N and they sent out a new punch, no proof needed. Sadly the new one doesn’t work as well as the old …..but the old one was a really nice piece until it’s later life.

BTW, there’s a General brand punch that looks like it but isn’t as good.
