I almost had a free dog... friendly and handsome too. But he was chipped...

Our rescue just cost us $3500 in vet bills after getting some kind of infection. Hardly drinks water anymore since it happened, so we have to 'enhance' his water with the stock water from whatever meat we happen to be cooking. Then he drinks it down like there is no tomorrow. I think he has caught on and has decided 'why drink this plain stuff when I can get way better'.

OXO cubes or chicken broth is way easier, just in case you decide to become vegan…

We tried powdered broth, he wouldn't drink it. We often have lots of water/juice after cooking so it is not in short supply. We have started to freeze it when we have too much so we will always have something.

Just leave the toilet lid up.

Boy, they don't like you. A trip to the vet is $110, even getting his nuts chopped off was under $200. They make it up on the drug charges if they can upsell to you.

Thankfully he has never tried to drink from the toilet.

You sure it's not a cat?

But even cats will sometimes try. When, we get new cats, the wife would wait till the cat tried and then she would reach over and drop the toilet seat on it. Usually cured that problem. Dogs don't usually care or at least don't try to balance themselves so delicately.

If your dog won't drink from the toilet, try putting some broth cubes in there. They learn pretty fast.

@TorontoBuilder Good for you for rescuing!
There was a unchipped dog found across the farm from us. Left there with a bag of dog food. Barely escaped the coyotes alive with multiple bites.
Luckily the local rescue found the dog in time.
I have 2x best thing in the world.
I can't even fathom how anyone can abandon an animal... but especially a dog, man's best friend.
