  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Really ?

Me too. Never liked that. Still don't.

But hang in there. I recently read that the EPA has decided not to require them anymore. So they will disappear as time passes and new models don't have them or as recalls are encouraged to disable them.
Not sure if I would rely on the EPA here.
We have a temp truck whilst the lovelies truck is off the road. The evil bastard is always trying to lock us in. It goes click and in unison we say "fuck off truck" ( can I say fuck off on here ?)

This is another silly one. Empty lot that will get a six story apartment block on it. No road to the right and no bus service on that road.

I wonder what they charged on those to change the starter on one of those and how long the life expectancy is.

Never had a starter problem. Most of the starters are continuous drive - no bendix.

My problems have all been battery related.

I recall reading that the auto shut off was the most despised features on a Subaru. You have to re-disable it using a menu choice every time you start the car. A previous software version had the disable hidden on a second level menu!

On our 2019 Forester there is a button on the dash that will disable it but you do have to do it after every start up.
I was surprised that my wife's 2024 Yukon has it as well because it just seems wrong on a diesel.
Starters are actually surprisingly tough. When I was a door to door milkman we all ran Chev 1 ton panel vans and most of us started the truck hundreds of times a day. You pretty much always shut off at each stop because you were paying for the gas. Most of us could easily get years and years out of a starter. Most of the trucks were standards but the guys with automatics disabled the neutral lockouts so they could be started in gear. Saving a few seconds at each stop was they key to a short day.

I didn't realize that the Forester is different. On both my 2022 and 2024 Outback XT it is a menu choice on the touch screen. Of course you cannot access the menu while the warning to pay attention when driving is displayed (wait 30 seconds or acknowledge the message with another menu button).

Perhaps most annoying is if one forgets to clear the autostop, the engine stops and then restarts when shifting from "D" to "Park". (The engine never autostops while in park!)

That one makes me crazy.
Also if I mute the radio by short pressing the power button, the next time I start the car it starts blasting again.

...it is a menu choice on the touch screen.
And therein lies the problem. Not intending to sound like a complete luddite, but much (if not all) of this electronic, micro-processor controlled, TV screen crap just pisses me off. Yeah, when it first started coming out the novelty was mildly amusing but it has become pervasive & invasive. Just give me back all my analog controls, get rid of all this digital garbage & I'll be a happier person.

Now, get the hell offa my lawn...

Ha, I have not even figured out how to turn the dammed radio off, I can mute it, but??? I do have to admit that the heated steering wheel is almost worth killing for in the winter time, the backup camera is good to see if anything is rite behind the truck, a kid, dog, dummy ass people that walk behind after you started backing out @#$&. If you aren’t taller then 4 1/2 feet, can’t see you rite behind the truck, and it is stock, not lifted.
Then there are screens that are to dam bright at nite, a major distraction.

This! We have two newer Fords at work, 3/4 ton & 2 ton. I jump in & the last guy driving has left the radio blasting on some gawd awful radio station. All I want to do is turn the damn thing off. Short press? Nope. Long press? Sometimes. Maybe. If you hold your mouth just right & mutter the correct curse. On an odd numbered weekday. Possibly. It shouldn't be rocket surgery nor require a trip to the operator's manual.

At this point I just turn the damn volume control down. Which, BTW, used to turn off an analog radio...

Another annoying thing about the Forester is that unless it is equipped with remote start, you can NOT walk away with the vehicle running and lock the doors.
You know, like 90% of us do for 7 months of the year when you run into the store in -30C.

How about the push to start button, after you put key or fob in, holy dam, that want away around about 1950 or so! AND the dam fob that starts the vehicle in your pocket cause the buttons stick out pass the body of the dam thing. Door lock buttons on top of the arm rest so the dog can lock you out, along with the window buttons there too, so the dog can open the window. Ever notice how these buttons are right where the water drips/runs in when the window is open and not water protected. How bout opening the door and the snow/water lands on the seat. Windshield wipers that are down below the hood level in an area that turns into an ice block.
Where do the people that design this stuff live?
Well, I think that’s it for today!
Oh dam I forgot the toaster with the computer in it, you program it for the toastyness you want ( ha, ha, NOT), loose power, unplug the piece of #$@, it loses the settings. A toaster with a COMPUTER IN IT???
