Really ?

As an old trucker, lots to say about this topic, first, by this point in time it shouldnt still be happening but back when we changed from imperial to metric there were thousands of truckers who didnt know how high they were as to the new signage on overpass's...lots of bumps & bruising back then.

Another point to make is that overpass's are curved higher in the middle than on the outside edges so even if you are oversize for the signage you can sometimes sneak under in the hammer lane shoulder but thats a crapshoot on wether you should be taking that route.

Another thing that isnt noticed sometimes is a "change in clearance" that changed on the signage...new 6" lift of pavement for example. ive driven under overpass's that still have the same clearance sign that it had 2 years before when I dumped asphalt under it.
And this is one you might never realize is happening until it does...buddy of mine was moving an excavator on lowboy and he should have been easily clear of every bridge on his route...but he wasnt....at highway speed he hit a frost heave in the road that bounced him high enough that the excavator boom hit a bridge girder face on. Cracked the girder completely thu, removed the hoe from the deck and the sudden stop with seat belts on ( from 60 mph to complete stop in 3 ft) put him in the hospital for a month.

It happened again!

Different underpass, same accident - really!?
BC enacted a law requiring all dump trucks to have box up alarms. The first style was a switch mounted on the frame that made contact with box. The other style tee'd into the hydraulic lines and operated a pressure switch. In my experience they are both worse than useless, continual false alarms and hydraulic leaks. Maybe we need smart drivers rather than smart devices.

All these underpasses getting hit lately, it's finally making sense now that a picture of the driver in BOTH incidents has been made public...

Your wife and daughters never made you watch 50 first dates I take it?.....

No, she did many years ago. In reference to myself I call it, "The Dark Ages of Entertainment".

I remember that Adam Sandler's character was with a woman who couldn't remember the previous day, everyday, and he was a gentleman. Otherwise that would be a much different movie.😳

I read the other day on the newsfeed that the new plan is to install beam technology to warn truckers of clearance issues….My thoughts are there is a shiteload of underpasses if a warning lights up you stop if not you go … buy popcorn for the transition period.

They have one of those for a low train overpass in Shawnigan Lake. They might have removed it now as a concrete pump truck took the bridge out a couple of years back. They have removed the overpass.

Exactly........ land's way too flat

Obviously you never heard of the great Mt. Blackstrap. Made it ourselves and everything.

Blackstrap Mountain is a man-made hill built in 1970 near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, specifically to host alpine skiing events for the 1971 Canada Winter Games. It was constructed by piling up large amounts of soil excavated from the nearby surrounding area, reaching a height of roughly 45 meters (150 feet) above the prairie landscape, often referred to as "the Pimple on the Prairie".
