Saw these in this video:

The disks have slots in them which when the disk is spinning allow you to see the surface under the disk. Pretty darn cool feature. Though I'm sure they aren't cheap.

Hadn't seen those before. Jewelers to do something similar. Somewhat different nomenclature than ours .... but the call these laps and they disks split laps. in use you hold the work under the lap and can see what you are doing

You can get them from Amazon. I would wear lots of ppe using these. Sanding more than a grinding disk.

The Work Sharp WS3000 (now like me, retired) had slit disks that mounted on glass wheels for fine sharpening; you look through a slotted wheel that matched the slits in the disks to see what is happening to the edge you are working on:

I have one, along with some other Work Sharp tools, but at present they are boxed up and buried; the link above has all the info.
