what would someone use this for, the only thing that comes to mind for me would maybe resurfacing drive wheels on a steam loco or something ?

what would someone use this for,
A friend of mine used to operate an 8 foot diameter vertical lathe, weighing a LOT more. They are used for turning pulley sheaves for big mining operations, Hubs for large gravel trucks, facing turntables for earth excavators (high-hoes) - just a few things that come to mind...
