Tips/Techniques New to me (preowned) computer cautions?

Tips/Techniques
Yeah, I use Amazon Prime for videos; with 4 of us in the house, we've got Netflix, AppleTV+, Disney+ and that. I don't use it for music but I know it is part of the service.

In the old days with Linux, switching between Bluetooth and headphone/line out was pretty awkward. I imagine that modern distributions are a lot better. For example, if you go out of range with the Bluetooth headphones, does it reconnect automatically when you return? Or auto-switch to line out, or something else? For that matter, I'm not sure what Win10 would do, either. (I'm pretty much exclusively in the macOS camp, these days.)

What is your plan for "music"? Are you subscribed to one of the online services (Spotify, Amazon Prime, ...)? Or do you have a bunch of CD's ripped to digital and you need player software?
A great player for Internet or any audio file type imaginable is VLC player - works on almost every platform, too.

The only issue you will have with installing WIN-10 again is the Microsoft Virus. This is the requirement to sign into microsoft to continue installation. And it appears as if you can't do the install without allowing microsoft into your world because the ID you use to access microsoft is the one that becomes your sign on ID.

This link is old now and the issue is there for both home and pro but the process is much the same.

You can find other similar videos and instructions by googling "how to prevent win-10 from needing microsoft account" or something to that effect.

I think this is only an issue with Windows 11. Last I checked, you could get around the requirement of having a Microsoft account for Windows 10 and just use a local account.

The older versions of win10 yes. The latest no. They closed that loophole so they can continue to infect machines.

However I was able to make my new system with WIN-10 not dial home. The network has to be disconnected at just the right time. I think it's also possible for WIN-11 but I disliked that OS so much that even though I paid for a brand new version I removed it and re-installed WIN-10.

Finally got a chance to play with this this morning. Did a fresh windows 10 pro, and have it running fine, loaded with all my files and stuff sans CAD programs yet. Pretty painless, and I didn't need to input any personal info, or have a windows ID. Now the hard part is finding space somewhere in the shop to hang the monitor :D. I don't expect it to run cad software all that well, but it will certainly be handy to do some 2d stuff in rhino out there without having to bring my laptop out and get it dirty. I think it'll work for that, but I'll find out later. It certainly doesn't have the video card for anything more

Pretty impressive little computer about 7" square 1.5" thick. Dead quiet too. I downloaded a version of Ubuntu that is supposed to work fine but I'll save that for a later date. I'll probably to pick up another one to play with for that once I get to the CNC lathe project.

Now I have to go cut the grass, and with sports finally all done for the year (except golf :D), I get the rest of the day, and all day tomorrow to myself to clean up and finish some shop projects that have been hanging around for the past few months waiting for the last 10-20%. I'm looking forward to puting on some background youtube videos and concerts, while I chip away at the projects list.

Accuradio.com is pretty good for on line radio, you get to chose from tons of generes to suit your taste.

D
Thanks. I poked around a bit, Looks like a good site.

Everything is all hooked up and working in the garage now. Looks like my "nice cheap shop computer" is going to cost me some more money though as my old spare 22" monitor is WAY to small to be useful out there, and I also want a wireless keyboard and mouse now too.......Off to market place again.....I think I've got enough room for a 40" tv. My only concern is that it'll be above the dart board......What could go wrong.

And we're done. Picked this 40" dynex tv up tonight after work. $60 with a wall mount, and extra long hdmi cable. Ordered a wireless keyboard and mouse earlier this week too. The shop is now connected.

I've also been busy putting back the wall of stuff that I had to take down to run the power to the mill, built a few new shelves to put back up, and organize stuff. With the detours all done I'm back to where I was a few weeks ago, only now with a working manual mill, and a shop computer for tunes and videos. Next "shop" project is to clean up that corner under the tv, and build some workable storage there, as well as hang my dartboard back up.

I also picked up this mixed lot of tools in my travels tonight for $20. Quite a lot of quality files in there that are brand new, but a little bit rusty. And a few other useful things I need/want. The rest I'll pass off to the young guys at work. I don't need anymore claw hammers....but maybe I might try forging one into a tomahawk.....Speaking of forging, I picked up a couple big sheets of 10ga to finish my forge hood too, and a mig gas refill, so I'll get back on that this weekend. It feels good finishing a bunch of stuff and getting projects done. It doesn't happen very often around here.......

I gotta go straighten that flag up too, just noticed that.....

Nice score although most CNC systems have a much smaller stack of status lights to signal machine operation status. Yours is really really big...

lol, I never thought of using those for that. Hmmmm

One of the winter projects I want to do with the kids is wire that up with relays. I also have a walk/don't walk one out in the barn. It's about time I got to them. They've been hanging around for over 10 years.....
