New to me Ammco 6" Metal shaper

And then there's just the shaper it's self, unload it tomorrow and plug it in, you'll know what I mean.

Unfortunately it's not gunna happen Don. I don't do much of anything real fast anymore. Right now it doesn't have a motor or a stand. Those lkwill have to get done first. I don't have room in my existing layout so no new furniture eirher. I plan to clear off some tool piles on existing surface storage and put it on an existing workbench instead.

No biggie though, I ran it before I bought it so I do know what you mean.
 
It looks to be a twin to mine. Looks good!

Alright Bandit and @TonyK, hit my first snag. For shipping, they rotated the clapper about 120 degrees from vertical.

I removed the bolt that holds the wedge in place, but no way is it moving. It's locked up solid. You can see the removed bolt and empty hole in this photo.

Is there a secret to get the clapper to rotate to vertical?

Edit - NM. It was just gummed up and appeared to be stuck, but really wasn't. I tapped lightly on it with a rubber mallet and it moved. So I grabbed it and applied some predator strength and it's vertical now. I think I'll remove it and clean it and then oil it up with fresh oil.

Edit 2 - I degummed it and applied fresh oil. Swivels like new now.

The shaper isn't going to fit on the workbench where I had planned to put it. The bench isn't deep enough so the shaper would stick out into the aisle way.

Need another plan. Might build it a new bench. Maybe a rolling cabinet. Lots to think about.
 
nice! an Ammco as well, not sure if you noticed, but my brake disc/drum lathe is also made by Ammco, real nice quality, hope your new toy is as well!
IIRC, Ammco comes from the name Automotive Maintenance Machine Company, so yeah, back when almost every corner garage did stuff like resurfacing brake disks and drums, and many other jobs that almost nobody does, anymore, they filled a gap by producing affordable tools that did these specialized jobs.

I don't know if the 6 and 7 have the same motor mounts, but I'd appreciate a few photos.

Mine was run via a line shaft. I had planned to put a motor under my work bench with a slot for the belt. But the work bench isn't happening. If get a rolling tool cabinet to put it on, I'll need to put the motor where AMMCO had it. That isn't detailed in my manual. A few pictures of how your motor is setup would be great!
 
Delta manual has good diagrams etc.

Unfortunately, no motor shown Gerrit.

I really like the factory cabinet but that would be a project of its own. I was thinking I could get a bottom tool cabinet that will easy take the weight, and have more useful tool storage to boot. Not necessarily this one, but you get the idea. I'd wait for something on sale.

 
A shaper ,like a power hacksaw, is a rodeo. The sheet metal lower cabinets are really flimsy. And even with the low one, it would place your shaper arm pretty high. Since storage is a problem in my workshop, I welded up square tubing frame frame for my drum sander rebuild. I plan to make a plywood cabinet to fit in it. If I was more on the ball, I would have made it 1/2" taller then I could have stuffed a double drawer filling cabinet in it. Better storage makes a too small workshop more usable .

1" diameter larger wheels ?
 
My double garage workshop is so chuck-a-block full , most machines are on wheels. The drum sander frame was no exception, so the frame goes all the way around. I have done this before under the metal lathe , using angle iron as slides for a couple of low tool box cabinets. My lathe sits pretty high even for someone who once was 6'1". It's stationary by the way.

But still some questions:

The rear bracket has two 1/4-20 threaded holes - marked in red in the photo below. I assume these are for a secondary motor flange.

It also has two cast in posts marked in yellow below. They look like they might accommodate an adjustment banjo for belt tightening?

Any insights?

I've asked the seller if there is any chance that they have the original motor. If so, it might even have the secondary brackets still attached (if they exist). If not, I'll have to make something.

Post #79, the 2 red circled hole are for belt guard on mine. Am going to “TRY” posting some pictures. Pictures of primary side drive guards and motor mount.
