new member intro Alberta

I hear you. Been there done that. The nice thing about plugging into a stove outlet is that it would be within your existing 100A operating envelope.

If there is any way to replace your stove with Gas, then you could run the stove extension permanently. IMHO, Gas is better to cook with anyway.
We went gas cook top with electric oven with steam capabilities. Haven't regretted that and the stove in the new location got a new breaker. Table saw still shares 220VAC with dryer. Never run the two at the same time.

Wow! $30K? About 15 years ago when we redid the kitchen we also replaced the service with 100A to 200A. They put in a big panel and the original was just subbed off from it. I could then add the 20A breakers for the counter top in the kitchen.

But I don't recall less than $5K to run new wires from the pole to the house. I take it your service is underground?
Underground service, and I conveniently live as far as possible from the nearest box.

I always went with the dryer plug because, at least in the houses i lived in, it was easier to access for unplugging and plugging in, the dryer also get far less use than the stove so it doesn't impact other members in the house as much.

like mentioned installing a plug next to the panel is another good option, i could never do that (rental houses)

As for the 100a, so long as your not running electric heat (or electric water heat) i think that's plenty these days, led bulbs, led tv's, more efficient appliances, the only thing you have to worry about really are the few high draw items, stove, dryer, and those are used sporadically. I only have 100a and a basement suite, 2 dryers, 2 toasters, 2 microwaves, 2 fridges, 2 air friers, a bazillion lights, 1 electric stove (gas upstairs), all the high power tools in the garage, and in 10 years i have never once tripped the main breaker or had a power issue. Would 200a be nice, sure, but 100 shouldn't be a problem for regular hobby work
