Navigating Tariffs Together

Where did you see that David? I looked around their site and couldn't find anything about that. I tried ordering a few things I've been wanting and shipping was still very high.
Two identical orders, shipped to the same address from the same American warehouse ordered the same morning. Order 1 arrives two days later, shipping $24. Order 2 arrives two weeks later, shipping $42. Both orders advised they would confirm shipping costs via email prior to shipping, neither one did. One order was correct.
Go figure.

Recall when Paula Bass dropped in here and we complained about the shift in shipping rates causing us hobby folks to not buy from KBC? I thought she said they were implementing the use of Canada Post flat rate boxes.

I met up with Arbutus at Timmy's. He had recently attended the trade show. When he talked to the suppliers, they were changing their sources . He said the Canadian share of the machine tool market was 25%. That's healthy chunk.

That letter points out KBC Canada is a subsidiary .

This thread is what I remember though my brain mixed up the details.

I just got a 5lb package from Ontario to Vancouver for $15 shipping. CanPar. I think these places should explore more options for customers.
I've had excellent experiences with Canpar. When I bought my CNC kit it came from St Albert AB to Victoria. Two big boxes, like 30" x 30" X12" each weighing 20-30 lbs and it was $114 shipping.

Ya, I don't remember that and can't find any reference to it.

After her post on here, I did send her a personal note. That wasn't mentioned there either.

For me personally, the shipping is no big deal. I can order for pickup at Old Castle as that's only an hour away and I get there regularly anyway.

Unfortunately it's a factor for me as there's no way going to KBC is economical.

That’s the basic problem: you have no idea what the shipping cost is until you see the charge on your card. At least back before McMaster showed the shipping cost in your cart you could message them and get a quote within an hour (even on weekends).

Those transfer punches look interesting. Can you tell us more about them? (how they work, why these instead of regular, etc)
The description pretty much says it all:

Wow, US$48 - they were US$31 a year ago! They’re handy thin3” sine bar went from US$11 to US$18.

The transfer punches are handy on odd-size holes (like castings) since between the three they cover 1/4” - 11/16” without any gaps. The bodies are slit and work like an expanding mandrel. They also take up less space the the metric/inch sets I have

So what you're saying is we order from KBC for pick-up in OC and the Sus flat boxes it on to us, is that right ?
:p

Packaging, generally now is trilingual . Our neighbour to the south is more bilingual then we are, except it's Spanish. Years back I walked into a Napa auto parts store just across the border in Washington state for some Ford engine green to repaint a Coleman stove, the sale signs in the store were all bilingual. The paint was only available in the States.

Love it!

Never saw that before but do admit I've thought about making something similar whenever my imperial punches didn't fit a metric hole or an-off size imperial hole very well.

I remember watching a friend who worked at a hobby shop spends hours putting "Model Reduit" stickers on all the Airfix model airplane kits. In the neighbourhood we lived in, "μοντέλο κλίμακας" would have been much more effective. Or 比例模型 .
