I could give you all sorts of advise & guidance on building cannons big enough to be noticed by the neighbors. They are good conversation starters as yard ornament but really get folks attention when being fired....they will attract a crowd .Even if it would fit in my shop I'm not sure what I'd use it for. So bigggggg
Personally, I wouldn’t mind learning more about cannons, do you just tamp the powder and fire the wad? or do you need an actual projectile to give the powder something to push against to get full burn?I could give you all sorts of advise & guidance on building cannons big enough to be noticed by the neighbors. I’m buying a cannon and you’re helping me find oneThis is a huge problem. @Chicken lights is a true coast to coast Canadian. You can't get away from him!

It’s too late now you’ve committed to it
Going out on a limb here...I have a 50 caliber muzzle loader. Sometimes it feels like a cannon. Would that count?
A bit out of touch but I think (without going on a political rant) that's probably come to an end ?I should know, but I don't. Are cannons even legal in Canada?
The retort from a cannon can be had with just a roll of tinfoil with an amount of Black Powder inside. In my small cannon ( 1.625 bore ) I use 300 grains of black and in my full size "field piece" civil war replica (pop can bore) I use 1/4 lb of black...not really much difference in the retort...both will wake the dead, but the muzzle blast/fireball from the big gun is outstanding. n projectile needed for full retort/blast effect but if I do use a projectile then the recoil becomes a factor. With a 3 lb projectile at BP velocities ( crono'ed at 1175 fps) that big gun ( aprox. 600 lbs) will recoil back 4 feet in the wink of an eye.Personally, I wouldn’t mind learning more about cannons, do you just tamp the powder and fire the wad? or do you need an actual projectile to give the powder something to push against to get full burn?
asking for a friend....
That’s probably a cannon but not what I’m looking for?
I picked up some 50 S&W projectiles in a deal couple days ago.....Hey Chicken...... Make yourself a 50cal hood ornament on your Cough Lathe Cough....

Are there plans for that hood ornament somewhere?

Just think of the impression it makes when you say to unwanted solicitation, please leave before I need to load the canon with a casual hand gesture.I could give you all sorts of advise & guidance on building cannons big enough to be noticed by the neighbors. There’s actually a bunch on eBay, although shipping might be funSurprisingly very little on the web that I could find. I might still have my notes and templates for the carriage and a couple of wheels.

What powder do you use in a 50 cal? Still straight up muzzle loading black powder?
