  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Hi all,
Can't really figure out where else to post this so I'll start here. If the moderators want to move it I'm fine with that too.
I have a whole lot of Model Engineer Magazines that were originally collected by the late Jack Churchwood who some of you may have met or know. The bunch in this photo are from around 2016 to 2020.

I have three other totes with issues from as old as 2002 to 2016 but I've not even started looking through those yet.

As they are Model Engineer issues they are mostly about trains and steam engines etc. With some machining articles. This set has an interesting series on converting a Sieg mill to CNC.

They aren't for sale. They are for someone who could use them even if just to read and learn and then the deal is they get passed on for free. Not recycled as used paper.

If you’re able to ship, and if the 2020 year is complete, I’d be happy to pay reasonable packing and shipping to Winnipeg. If you find 2021 to end of 2024 I’d be very interested. No worries if that doesn’t work for you.

There are only a few from 2020. Most are way older. The ones in the photo combined weigh about 28 lbs.

Here's a photo of the 3 totes.

Yeah, I was afraid there only be a few issues from 2020. Sorry, pass, am looking for complete years. Maybe someone from VIME will want them?

That is a generous offer. I need 1981 to late 2002 to round out my collection of pdfs if anyone has those even to lend for pdf scanning in a few month's time when I can access my scanning setup in my basement.

Damn... I was pretty devout to ME (and others) when I lived in Moose Jaw, but kinda fell away from them, as the price kept going up, but the content did not seem to rise at all.

Courtesy of a mutual (deceased) friend (Robert Grauman, may he long rest in Sunny Alberta!), I have ME magazines dating back in to the last Century, as well as some pre-dating those. I always found that the pre-WW2 and Post WW2 issues were the most interesting, as there was a lot going on with home built refrigeration, and they were not all pussified over stuff concerning guns. The tales of trying to be involved in Model Engineering in the post WW2 drought, are of particular note, once you realize that the entire industry had focused upon Export, or Die, as the bottom line. It was good years to be in the "colonies", not so good to be the Colonizer! Never saw a complaint, but when you knew what to look for, it was pretty grim times if you wanted to build a scale working model of about anything!

We have things SO good, now!

Great idea John, I'd love a few, nothing in particular. I'd be happy to mail them on, onesies or twosies. I could maybe pick a few up sometime when I'm out your way.

I'd love to give them all a home.

I'm up in Campbell River, with friends in Victoria area, so I'm sure we could work something out. (and I'm also willing to share as there are others interested)

I've started going through the older ones. There's a two part article on "The Cannon Sharpener" for end mills. Interesting. Can't do the Gashing but it's pretty simple. Uses posilock type collets.

Lots of inspiration in them. I've flipped through the few that they have on archive.org.

Whenever you are ready to part with them/some of them, let me know and we can arrange something.
