  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Metal finishes

That’s my understanding also although they also call it triple chromed which is deceptive so maybe it’s possible without all three but affects the adhesive aspects that eventually peel.

Really? I knew our school's were progressively getting worse but that's alarming if true
I don't think it'd be a problem at her school for THAT reason, but she doesn't need to be running around with a sharp spike sticking in her hair next to the base of her skull either....She's a kid. Kids do kid things. Save it for special occasions, where doing impromptu cartwheels isn't a possibility.....Which, seems like all the time anyway....:D

I'm fixing on.... "delivering"...some things from our southern brethren that happen to make some noise and bright lights for my local youth

One of the waitresses in town asked for some .... noise makers.... for her son and I'm immediately on board with helping out with that
:D

I've done quite a bit of nickle plating of old machine parts and it is pretty simple, vinegar, pure nickle and a 12v power source. holds up well.
Hmmm those parts look great. I just may have to try that one day. So you are plating directly on steel, no intermediary? About how much soak time using those parts as example? Do you use a bench power supply to also set a current rate or what dictates that?

I can't find my power supply atm, just an out of focus pic.
Plating right on to fresh steel that has been cleaned with a strong detergent and thoroughly wiped down with acetone.
maybe I just got lucky but I cranked the power up and left the pcs in for about 20min.
The vinegar has to be prepped by dissolving nickle into it, many vids on youtube.
