"Maybe beyond my skill set and needs"

I bought one of these years ago. Obviously beyond my skills and need but "the wallet wants what the wallet want". They were going for around $700 US at the tine but I got a real deal $278 CDN NEW. The cheap Chinese knock offs cost more than that and were generally crap. Accurate to 0.0005" with the supplied probe and 0.0002" with a different probe. I don't regret it and the wife still doesn't know about it so I'm good.

How does a different probe make it more accurate?

Wait, aren't we all working to 2 microns?
What's a micron? If you want me to make a mess of something, just ask me to use metric measurement. Brain does not like it, makes no sense. At 70 I think I am in for the rest of my life using Imperial measurement. Sorry, just no way to change, tried, failed and failed again. Material is expensive just cannot afford it.

The "other" probe is much longer so it is probably a trig thing.

A big plus1! I to am 70 and I refuse to submit to the metric madness. I was once told by a 20 something, right out of school, that I had to change over even in my home shop, no choice have to do it. Hope he didn't hold his breath waiting.

Once at work many years ago an engineer came to us with a drawing of something he wanted fabricated. It was metric. We promptly told him we don't do metric, were he told us we had to start using it. We laughed and said no. He showed up a week later with the drawing now in Imperial measurement. He got told.
