Making springs.

My VF2 has a BT30 spindle and but a Cat40 tool carousel. In order for the tools to fit in the carousel they have made a conversion pocket. This pocket has flat shaped springs that grip the pull stud. Over time the springs lose their strength. I had to pull out a dozen holder and steal the springs to double up on the other holders. I tried making my own to reclaim the missing pockets but after a few tool changes the new one's get bent out of shape and fail.
Does anyone know how to give these new parts some spring?
They are made of cold roll mild steel. I tried stainless but that wasn't any better. I figured mild steel is better for heat treating if that's the way to go.
Does anyone here do heat treating? I'd be happy to pay.
